The Men's Lambton Area Retiree's Golf Association (LARGA) started as a small group of golf-loving retirees and has grown into a vibrant community that tees it up at some of the best courses the area has to offer.
To provide an enjoyable, social and affordable golf experience for retired residents of Lambton County and surrounding areas - fostering friendship, fitness and a love of golf.
Rich Jackson and James Wade, members of the 445 social club at Imperial Oil, applied to New Horizon of Ontario and received a grant to begin a Retiree's Golf Association. A co-ed club is formed with 45 members.
The association steadily grows as more retirees discover the camaraderie and relaxed atmosphere that LARGA offers each season. The group caps at 100 members and splits into two separate groups for ladies and gentlemen.
The men's association continues to grow bringing together over 400 playing members and a 52 game schedule between the months of May and September.
The wives of the original association founders donated a trophy to the group for the Low Gross shot on closing day. The plaque attached to the trophy is engraved with Doug Harris' name for shooting a 79 at Greenwood Course.
Today LARGA boasts a strong membership playing across multiple courses throughout Lambton County each season, kicking off in May and closing for the season in the fall.
The 2026 season kicks off May 4th at Widder Station, with events scheduled across Golf North courses and other local Lambton County favourites.
LARGA is open to any retired individual aged 50 or older who enjoys social golf. You don't need to be scratch - just show up with a smile and a willingness to enjoy the game. Non-members may also play as a guest once per season before deciding to join.
Whether you're new to LARGA or a returning member, Lorne is happy to answer questions about registration, tee times or the 2026 season.
